Hong Kong’s exports in 2025 rose by 15.4% year-on-year to a “historical high” of HKD5,240.3 billion, with authorities expecting sustained global economic growth, improved ties with new markets, and strong demand for artificial intelligence-enabled products to continue supporting the city’s trade. According to the Census and Statistics Department, the total value of imports increased by 15.5% during the same period. “Exports to the mainland continued to grow visibly, and those to the Asean economies showed robust growth. Exports to the United States showed a decent increase, while those to the European Union declined slightly.” Government data showed that, compared with 2024, the value of total exports rose to most major destinations, including a 61.6% increase to Malaysia, a 50.5% rise to Vietnam and a 43.6% growth for those to Taiwan.
The Spokesman said exports of most major commodities had risen “markedly”, particularly for “electrical equipment, machinery and mechanical appliances”. According to government data, an increase of 17.2% was recorded in “electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances, and electrical parts thereof” compared with 2024, while “office machines and automatic data processing machines” saw a rise of 24.9%, the South China Morning Post reports.
