After decades of rapid economic growth and industrialization, China has become the world’s largest producer in absolute terms of food loss, waste, and single-use plastics. The country’s food delivery industry, the largest globally, is the biggest contributor to this production. To address the situation, in recent years, China has developed a regulatory framework promoting waste reduction and recycling. The EU SME Centre's new report looks into the strong demand for solutions that reduce waste and enhance recycling efficiency, and what opportunities this creates for European SMEs.
