Webinar: Riskful Thinking: EUCCC's Report on Navigating the Politics of Economic Security – 24 May 2024 – 9h30 CEST

The EU-China Business Association (EUCBA) and the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China (EUCC) are organizing a webinar focused on the report 'Riskful Thinking – Navigating the Politics of Economic Security'. This is the latest publication of the EUCCC produced in partnership with China Macro Group (CMG). The webinar will take place on 24 May 2024 at 9:30 CEST.

The European Union (EU), China and the United States (US) have all been engaged in varying degrees of risk management and efforts to strengthen economic security for several years, however, it would be misleading to use ‘de-risking’ as a catch-all term to describe their respective approaches. The measures being adopted, the desired outcomes and the length of time each actor has been engaged in such activities, are quite distinct.

At the same time, the volume, complexity and severity of the risks businesses face have grown exponentially, as politics has slowly seeped into the business environment. While chamber members differ in how they are responding to this, clear sets of strategies are emerging, with some pulled into the China market to increase localisation and/or investment, and others pushed to shift investments and/or parts of their operations away from the country.

The programme is as follows:

9:30 – 9:35: Introduction by Ms. Gwenn Sonck, Executive Director, EU-China Business Association

9:35 – 10:15: Presentations by:

Mr. Carlo D'Andrea, Vice President and Chairman, European Chamber, Shanghai Chapter

Mr. Markus Hermann, Co-Founder and Managing Director, China Macro Group

10:15 – 10:30: Q&A session
