People's Bank of China Guangdong and iSuzhou issue service guides to facilitate expats' online payments

Recently, the People’s Bank of China Guangdong Provincial Branch released the Payment Service Guide for Overseas Visitors to Guangdong. Covering instructions on payment with overseas and domestic bank cards, cash, mobile payment, and e-CNY, this service guide aims to provide overseas visitors with a safe, convenient, inclusive and diverse payment experience. The iSuzhou website published a similar guide.

Overseas bank cards are accepted where you can see logos of your card schemes such as Visa, Mastercard and JCB. UnionPay cards are accepted at all merchants with POS terminals in Guangdong.

Cash withdrawal and exchanges are available at bank branches, self-service machines such as ATMs, specialized institutions for foreign currency exchange, and at foreign currency exchange machines.

Mobile payments are available with UnionPay, Alipay and WeChat Pay after linking your overseas credit card and going through the identity verification process. Personnel at service desks in major international airports in China is available to help with the process. Currently, 85 e-wallets from 17 Asian countries and regions including South Korea, Japan and Thailand are accepted in China.

Foreigners can open a bank card account at local bank branches. Payments can also be made with the e-CNY, the digital legal tender of China.
