Belgian companies.

The Worldexpo Shanghai 2010 will take place from 10 May until 31 October 2010 in downtown
Shanghai, at the Waterfront of the Huangpu River between Nanpu and Lupu Bridge.
The main theme of the Expo is “Better City, Better Life”, focusing on diversity, economic
prosperity, innovation, communities and the relation rural-urban. The organisation confirmed
that 231 countries and international organisations will participate. They also estimated that
approximately 80,000,000 people will visit the expo with a minimum flow of 400,000 visitors
each day to a maximum of 800,000 visitors a day.

The expo itself will cover an area of 5,28km2, of which Belgium will occupy 5000m2. The
Belgian pavilion is a cooperation between the federal government and the regions. The
organisation will focus on sustainable development.

The Belgian pavilion will consist of a business and conference center for events for specific
target groups, an exhibition space with a permanent exhibition for the general public and a
Belgian brasserie.

Companies can be involved in the pavilion through:
1/ Sponsoring of products, materials and technology for the construction and the exploitation
of the pavilion
2/ Use of the business and conference center for meetings or seminars
3/ Visibility for Belgian companies on the screens inside and outside

Mrs Tonia Van de Vyver, Project leader FIT Shanghai Expo 2010, gave a presentation on the
participation of Flanders in the pavilion. On 25 May 2010, Flanders is planning to hold a
‘Flemish Day’. FIT will participate in group exhibitions at the fairs on environment, food and
logistics, during the period of the Shanghai World Expo 2010 and will organise at the same
time seminars and network events on related topics in the pavilion. In order to provide the best
possible support to Flemish companies, FIT will have an office in the pavilion during the six
months of the expo.

Flemish companies can use the conference room for the reasonable price of 4.500 €. This
includes renting of the equipment. Important to mention is that SME’s can apply for a 50%
subsidy with FIT. for renting the meeting room in the pavilion.
