On 26 March 2009, the Flanders-China Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with Deloitte and the Province of East Flanders, organized a lunchconference on customs and taxation in China.

Mrs Sarah Chin, National Indirect Tax Leader at Deloitte China, started her presentation by giving some insights into the current economic climate in China and the impact on customs. In this respect, she explained that the revenue target for customs for 2009 is said to increase by approximately 9% despite the decrease of imports and exports. Accordingly, it is expected that audits will go up and that the customs authorities will be very  strict in applying the regulations(e.g.the anti-smuggling and fraud regulation). The government will also continue to focus on valuation and the trend is that main challenges are in this field. Mrs Sarah Chin also shared some ideas and opportunities to generate savings and optimize cash flow further to recent developments and changes made to customs and tax regulations.

The seminar took place at Huis van de Economie in Ghent and was attended by 40 person.
