The Flanders-China Chamber of Commerce (FCCC) and Bekaert organized a dinner in honour of the visit of the Party Secretary of Jiangyin and his delegation, which took place at Hotel Plaza in Brussels on 9 August 2007. All the participants had the opportunity to meet the Party Secretary and the delegation of Jiangyin during the reception.

A welcoming speech was given by Mr Bert De Graeve, CEO of Bekaert and President of the FCCC. This was followed by a speech of Mr Zhu Minyang, Party Secretary of Jiangyin who briefed us on the advantages of investing in Jiangyin.

Jiangyin, situated at 60 km from Shanghai in Jiangsu Province, is the city where Bekaert has 6 production plants.  More than 2000 people are employed in these plants.  A total of more than 200 million dollar investments have been approved in Jiangyin by Bekaert, where they have also set up an R&D facility.  Bekaert has actually signed its first joint venture agreement in 1993 with the Jiangsu Wire Rope Group, which is now the Fasten Group. Jiangyin was not only the first location, but is now by far the major location for Bekaert for further development and expansion in China.

Jiangyin has been awarded as one of the best cities in scientific research improvement.  From “Made in Jiangyin” we move on to  “Created in Jiangyin”.

The Jiangyin Economic Development Zone (JEDZ), which is regarded as the main area in Jiangyin for foreign investors, has successfully attracted 292 companies, of which 16 companies from world top 500 companies.

The party secretary strongly encouraged more collaboration in the fields of environmental protection, human resources, management experience and IT.

H.E. Mrs Zhang Qiyue, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Belgium, honoured us with her presence. The seminar and dinner was attended by some 50 interested businessmen and  officials.
