From 3 to 6 December 2007, the Flanders-China Chamber of Commerce (FCCC) and Agoria organized a successful visit to several development zones around Shanghai.

The aim was to get better acquainted with the investment area and the multiple benefits available to foreign investors. Visits were organized to the following locations: Shanghai, Jiangyin, Suzhou and Wuxi.
The delegation was led by the Consul General of Belgium in Shanghai, Mr Marc Pecsteen, Mr Herman Vandaele, President Bekaert Asia and Mr Pierre Van de Bruaene, Vice-President Zinc Battery Materials, Umicore. 10 member companies took part in the visit. The visit started in Shanghai with an interesting overview and insight on China’s development zones by Mr Edoardo Bertolani, Senior Consultant to Interchina.

At the same briefing Mr Winston Jin, Lawyer of Fangben Law Office introduced the different legal options when investing in China. Mr Peter Buytaert, President, BenCham informed the participants about the activities of BenCham in China. At each location, the delegation was received at high level by the Chinese officials.

In Jiangyin, we visited Bekaert and exchanged views on their experiences of investing in China. In Wuxi, Agfa Graphics and Atlas Copco gave us a better view on how they do business in Wuxi New District and in Jiangsu Xishan Economic Development Zone, Bekaert gave us a presentation about their investment in that zone.

In Suzhou we visited the following member companies based in Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP): Umicore, Picanol, Vitalo Packaging and Vyncke. All of them gave us a better understanding about their experiences of investing in SIP.
