Agfa Graphics in China

China is the world’s biggest ‘print factory’. Every year a total of 48 billion newspapers, 8 billion books and 3 billion magazines are being printed. Package printing is well-developed in China, along with the move of product manufacturing to the country. A lot of non-time sensitive print has shifted from western markets to China.

With the economic development following from China’s entry into the WTO in 2001, demand for consumer goods increased, and as a result the volume of publications, packaging and commercial printing. Computer-to-plate prepress technology has developed fast, with more high-quality printing plates being consumed.

Agfa Graphics strongly believes in the potential of the Chinese economy and wants to deliver its innovative technologies to the Chinese printing industry. One example is Agfa Graphics’ highly successful range of chemistry-free printing plates.

In 2003 Agfa Graphics opened a state-of-the-art printing plate factory in Wuxi (near Shanghai), representing a capital investment of more than €50 million. This factory is a competence center that serves the growing region in an efficient way. It produces Agfa Graphics' portfolio of printing plates to meet Asia's increasing demands for high-quality printing technology. Thanks to a substantial investment in environmental protection measures, the Wuxi plant complies with the European EHS standards. It holds the ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certificates.

In 2010, Agfa Graphics entered into a joint venture with its loyal Chinese partner Shenzhen Brothers to form Agfa Graphics Asia Ltd, entailing the territory mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the ASEAN countries. The joint venture in which Agfa Graphics holds the majority share is a locally embedded organization that draws on the leading infrastructure, technology, and manufacturing strength of Agfa Graphics combined with the strong and highly reputed distribution network and capabilities of Shenzhen Brothers in the region. The synergies between the two leaders serve the ambitious growth plans of both companies in the region.

Agfa Graphics Asia Ltd. has its headquarters located in Shenzhen. In addition, sales and marketing teams are operating from the branches in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Chengdu, Jinan, Hong Kong and Taipei.
